INTERNSHIPS

An internship is a pre-professional, educational experience, where students have an opportunity to enhance their theoretical knowledge by applying it in practice. The main goal of an internship is for students to gain practical skills related to their specializations in a real-world work setting. The responsibility lies with students to choose an Internship site.

European Studies graduates spent their Internship in research centers, political parties, touristic agencies, translation agencies; TV and Radio, intercultural traineeship programs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, non-governmental organizations (NGO), HR office, local, national, and international government services, embassies and projects.

INTERNSHIP I

INTERNSHIP I is a part of the departmental requirement in the 3-d year of study.

It is expected to choose a site where a student will be able to gain concrete practical skills in a particular field related to European Studies. All proposed INTERNSHIP sites must be declared by the student and approved by the departmental supervisor. Generally, the internship should involve a minimum of four weeks of full-time work (160 working hours in total).

Expectations:

An internship is a multi-dimensional experience and students should expect to benefit in several ways. During their internships, they will have a chance to:

  • Apply their knowledge from the classroom in an actual work setting; 听听听听听听听听
  • Gain practical skills and learn where further improvements are needed;
  • Meet and network with potential future employers;
  • Develop an understanding of an organization and its mechanisms;
  • Acquire relevant experience essential for their future careers;
  • Learn important professional skills that are valuable in any field such as interview; data gathering, interview guide; survey; 听write a summary, text analysis; presentation 鈥 oral and written; prepare minutes; briefing paper/ memo; conference/ workshop organization; drafting abilities; translation work in different languages; intercultural communication skills;听 critical thinking skills.

Evaluation: Although INTERNSHIP is a practical work, it is also counted as an academic course and is academically supervised (theory-practice reflection) by ES department. After completing the internship, students must submit a report in accordance with departmental guidelines. The student needs to demonstrate his results during the oral (Power Point) presentation. Best presentation will be published on the ES website. Finally, students need to write a critical essay (theory-practice reflection) addressing four issues - skills gained during the internship, possibilities for further growth, things that were not accomplished and overall evaluation.

INTERNSHIP II

INTERNSHIP II is a part of the departmental requirement in the 4-th year of study.

It is a Translation Internship organized by European Studies for Seniors in French, German and Spanish languages as a 3-credits course.

Our translation internship provides students the opportunity to learn from a firsthand perspective, how to interpret languages and to gain some professional translation experience. The work is revised by an experienced teacher-translator. We will contact touristic agencies to organize your participation in written or/and oral translation of documents, PR materials, letters and/or guide tour.

Purpose:

  • Practice language鈥 skills gained during the study;
  • Improve skills in proofreading and the accuracy and proficiency of the targeted translated language;
  • Improve abilities in writing, especially in grammar and punctuation;
  • Improve communication skills, especially written

Evaluation: Although INTERNSHIP II is practical work and it is academically supervised by ES department. After completing the internship, students must submit a report in accordance with departmental guidelines. The student needs to demonstrate his results in completing his/her portfolio by editing the final translated documents. Finally, students need to write a critical essay (theory-practice reflection) addressing four issues - skills gained during the internship, possibilities for further growth, things that were not accomplished and overall evaluation.
