Join the Ethnicity, Nation, and Memory: Local and Global Perspectives guest lecture, conducted in the framework of the Global Citizenship class, as a part of Bard Global Network.听
The presentation focuses on the linkages between ethnicity and national censuses in the context of nation-building. Using theoretical approaches, historical and contemporary illustrations in a variety of countries, parts of this complex puzzle scrutinized through the prisms of sociology and political science. The examples illustrate the diversity of contexts that connect population, ethnicity, and nation-building, raising new questions and comparative problems. How social and cultural memory is integrated into the process of nation-building will also be considered. The multidisciplinary emphasis addresses core themes of ethnicity, nation-building, and construction of social memory from a local and global perspective.
Bio: Aizharkyn Kozhobekova is Ph.D., Associate professor in Philosophy, UN Women Spotlight Initiative Programme Analyst, National expert of Kyrgyzstan in Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), Focal Point of Kyrgyzstan for the UNESCO Silk Roads Online Platform.
